“Ipswich has been a pretty good hunting ground for me in years gone by. I had my first ever V8 Supercars race win there and a couple of podiums there last year as well so I’m looking forward to going back…”Chaz Mostert
Team Navy – Prodrive Racing Australia’s Chaz Mostert remains quietly confident of pulling out a strong performance in his return to the Queensland Raceway for the V8 Supercars Coates Hire Ipswich Supersprint this weekend. “…fingers crossed we can get it lickety-split out of the gate and really push hard for some results and keep pushing in the championship to try and get our cars to 1, 2, 3” comments Mostert about his #6 Ford FG X’s track debut.
With Mostert originally coming from Queensland, the Ipswich circuit was, practically, his home track and he has seen his fair share of podium finishes, as well as, his first ever V8 Supercars win in 2013. “Ipswich has been a pretty good hunting ground for me in years gone by… I’m looking forward to going back”.
Coming off the back of a clean sweep in Townsville, Mostert’s team mate (#5) Mark Winterbottom, although confident, remains wary of the Queensland Raceway’s challenges “I think Ipswich will be good for us. It’s been a round that has been a little bit hard in the past but it’ll be good to try out the new car there and see what it does” says Winterbottom.
With Mostert’s previous successes on this track, could Ipswich be the key to taking back the number one spot, at this half-way point of the series? Chaz heads into this weekend’s race, sitting in 5th place in the series, and he remains casually philosophical about his chances “…it’ll be another track to tick off the list and we’ll see how we roll out.”
